Twenty Twelve: Take that leap this leap year

Too often we fall into a routine – doing the same things day in and day out. We become comfortable in our zone and motivation starts to leave us. We become floaters – drifting through life with no real aim or purpose. Nobody wants this, but how do we change it?

Albeit this may be a little late, since we’re in the middle of April, but let us change our lives this year for the better. Take that leap!

Be a little bit more selfish and look after yourself this year. Nobody will love you more than you love yourself. We only have one shot at life and one body – make use of it, look after it and it will look after you. Be happier. Throw out bad habits. Work smarter, not harder. Play more, not less.

Always envied the beautiful photos/dance moves you see? Do that photography/dancing class you’ve always wanted. Want to lose weight or become fitter? Join that fitness club you’ve always noticed on your way to work. Life is a constant whirlwind of busy schedules/meetings or resolving family/work related problems? Take that time off for yourself every Sunday, even if it is just an hour, to unwind and relax before the next hectic week starts. Always wanted to open up that business and work for yourself? What are you waiting for?

Still think you are not ready? Nobody is ever 100% ready for anything and opportunities don’t come around very often so Take. That. Leap.

Take baby steps if you’re afraid – change has to start from somewhere. As long as you acknowledge it and accept it, you are half way there already. Become proactive rather than reactive. Set yourself short term goals – for a week, a fortnight, a month, mid-year, till the end of the year and strive to reach for it.

What have you started doing this year that will change your life for the better? Better yet, what will you do this year to make yourself a happier you?

To Inspire Others is Extraordinary

To be able to write, is a gift. To be able to express yourself in such a way that compels others to comment, is a miracle. To be able to inspire others, so they are willing to set their goals and try to reach for their dreams, is extraordinary. I aim and strive to be like that one day.

In one of my management courses I am taking, we study/analyse large corporations, and how they came about. Toyota, General electric, Outback Steakhouse, Just Cuts, Google, Apple… the list goes on. Regardless of what the industry is, they all have one thing in common – They all have long term and short term goals that they set, and they strive to reach those goals and targets in a certain time frame.
